Mold Removal is often times best left to the professionals. Without conducting
a proper Mold Inspection and Mold Testing prior to the start of a Mold Remediation project will often times spell disaster. Mold Abatement can be complicated, therefore it is vital to know the extent of the damage and to establish proper containment before beginning the Mold Cleanup Process.

 

HVAC Mold Remediation

The design, installation, operation and Maintanance of HVAC systems are important factors in controlling mold growth within. Often times mold enters an HVAC system through the return vents which can draw contaminated air into the system and transport it throughout the building structure through the supply vents.

In addition, conventional HVAC filters have Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating of 6 or less and are not effective at trapping mold particles.

Generally, ductwork with a non-porous internal surface such as sheet metal, responds well to remediation. Galvanized Sheet metal can withstand the aggressive cleaning techniques necessary for removing mold contamination. However, sections of internally lined ductwork such as flexible ducting cannot be properly cleaned and therefore should be removed and replaced.

Dirty Ducts

A common case of what you can not see can hurt you.

Cleaning of the HVAC system will include the following:

  1. The interior of evaporators and cooling coils (which are extremely difficult to clean through the many layers of the coil).
  2. Fan blades and blower wheels.
  3. Removal of filters and replace with new ones.
  4. Running compressed air and a whipping system through each vent. This pushes all contamination down into the main trunk area of the system where a hi-powered truck mounted vacuum system will suck out the contamination from the system.
  5. The system is then sanitized with an EPA, HVAC approved antimicrobial solution which is fogged into the duct work.
  6. In extreme cases the system is then sealed using a coating to reduce the probability of future mold growth.
